GAME FACTS
  • The 13 wins for head coach Jack Fitzgerald are the most for a first-year coach in program history.
  • McCarthy pushed his career point total to 88.
  • Saint Michael's won for the seventh time in its last nine home games against the Eagles, with three of the past six meetings at Cairns Arena going as Purple Knight overtime victories.
THE ACTION
  • Howell turned in the only scoring during the first period, picking up a loose puck in his own zone before carrying into the Saint Michael's end and going glove side on Plunkett from the right circle at 12:53. He made it 2-0 at 4:24 of the second period, one-timing a power-play blast over Plunkett from the left circle.
  • Bloom struck for his first goal on a power play with 15:19 gone, tipping home Douglas' blast from the left point. McCarthy also assisted.
  • LeComte found the equalizer at 11:37 of the third period, knocking in a rebound of sophomore Patrick Last's (Derry, N.H./Twin City Thunder) shot. Forselius added the secondary helper before putting Saint Michael's ahead 4:06 later on a power play, as his shot from between the circles trickled through Cunneen. Douglas and McCarthy lent assists.
  • With Cunneen pulled and Post already on a power play, Reager scored the tying goal past a sprawling Plunkett with 26.7 seconds left in regulation during 6-on-4 play.
  • That proved to be the final shot for either team until Bloom's winner. During the first minute of overtime, Douglas' stretch pass down the seam sent Bloom alone on Cunneen, where he finished on his backhand out front with 43 seconds elapsed.
