Baseball Swept by 18th-Ranked Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team lost both ends of a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader to 18th-ranked Bentley University, 19-4 and 20-0 in seven innings, on Saturday at DeFelice Field. The Falcons' national ranking is according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

THE ACTION
  • Junior Brendan Sencaj's two-out RBI single gave Bentley a first-inning lead before the Purple Knights scored three runs in the fourth, going ahead on Kinsella's two-run single. He later came around on Ayala's two-out double.
  • The Falcons plated a run in the home half before scoring four in the fifth, with DeMartinis' two-run double the big blow.
  • Weber's sac fly scored Ayala, who led off with a triple, to make it 6-4 in the seventh.
  • Bentley pulled away with nine runs on four hits in the home half.

THE ACTION
  • Bentley did all of its scoring over the first four innings, with DeMartinis (single), Sencaj (double) and Heath (double) rapping consecutive run-scoring hits with two down in the opening frame to give their team the lead for good.
  • Fischer accounted for five of his seven outs in relief via the strikeout.
