Softball Splits Southern Connecticut State, Stages Seventh-Inning Rally in Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College softball team scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to snag a 6-3 win in game one of a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader at Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at Pelz Field. The Owls took the nightcap, 10-0 in five innings.

THE ACTION
  • Cestari and Iaquinto knocked RBI singles in the second inning before junior Brynlyn Owens' (Limon, Colo./Limon) two-out RBI infield single halved the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth.
  • Ingersoll's RBI single back up the box provided an insurance run in the sixth.
  • Smith and Liimatainen came through with consecutive run-scoring knocks in the seventh to tie the game before Flaherty's two-run double to right center gave her team the lead for good. She came around with an unearned run on Nordahl's two-out double to cap the five-run frame.
  • In the home half, Liimatainen worked around a two-out single, fanning a pair in the stanza.
