COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College softball team split one-run decisions with Assumption University on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field. The Purple Knights captured the nightcap of a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader, 3-2, after losing the opener, 5-4.

THE ACTION

• Cahill's infield single scored the game's first run with two down in the third inning.
• Liimatainen tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth before junior Maddy Vaughn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) after Liimatainen eluded capture in a rundown with the next batter up.
• Senior Emma Bloom's sac fly tied the game in the sixth, and Assumption went ahead with three unearned runs on two hits and two errors in the seventh.
• Bull and Smith came through with RBI singles in the home half, drawing Saint Michael's within 5-4. However, the hosts left runners at the corners when the final batter grounded out.

THE ACTION

• Assumption scored a pair of unearned runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the first inning, but Eaton entered from the bullpen to strand a pair of runners.
• Bland doubled with one out in the fifth but was cut down trying to stretch the hit to a triple 9-6-5, initiated by Davidson in right field.
• The Purple Knights carried the momentum into the home half, when they scored all three of their runs courtesy of five hits and an error. Owens knocked the tying two-run single to center field before scoring the eventual winning run on Nickerson's bunt single.
• Saint Michael's cut down the tying run at the plate on a fielder's choice in the sixth before Eaton set the Greyhounds down in order in the seventh.
