COLCHESTER, Vt. - Three Saint Michael's College baseball student-athletes earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Academic All-District honors on Tuesday.
Â
May graduates
Ryan Canty (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) and
Casey Gunnip (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Saint Rose) and rising senior
Richard Gilboy (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) were among 26 Northeast 10 Conference student-athletes recognized. Canty and Gilboy qualified for the second time in their careers, while Gunnip claimed his initial accolade.
Â
A captain, Canty logged a 1-1 record with 18 strikeouts and only nine walks in 27.2 innings out of the bullpen as a senior. He logged the most career pitching appearances in program history (56), with 54 coming in relief, while registering three saves. The health science major graduated with a 3.8 cumulative grade-point average.
Â
Gunnip fanned 33 batters in 54.1 innings as a regular member of the starting rotation, with 10 of his 14 outings as a starter. The southpaw, who graduated in three years despite transferring in before the 2024-25 school year, finished with a 3.78 GPA as a business administration major.
Â
While splitting time between catcher and third base, Gilboy landed NE10 All-Conference second team honors. He shattered a program record with 46 RBI and set another mark with 31 walks, batting .296 with a .444 slugging percentage and .403 on-base percentage. He scored 28 runs and knocked 11 doubles, two triples and three home runs. Gilboy tied for 11th in the NE10 in RBI and took 14th in walks. He heads into his senior season with 91 career RBI, one shy of the school record, and owns a 3.66 GPA as a business administration major.
Â
CSC recognizes major contributors toting at least a 3.50 GPA by their sophomore seasons who meet participation minimums. Each school was able to put a maximum number of student-athletes forward, with All-District qualifiers advancing directly to the Academic All-America ballot, which incorporates national membership voting. Through the Academic All-America program, CSC names Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams at each the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III levels, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
