COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team began Northeast 10 Conference play with a 5-2 loss to Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday at the SMC Tennis Courts.

THE ACTION

• The Purple Knights took the match's opening point, as all three doubles contests were played to 6-4 decisions.
• After Koppelmans and junior Jamie Macpherson (Durham, United Kingdom/Framwellgate School Durham) lost at No. 3, the tandems of Boban/Brooker and Deshayes/Lin took victories at No. 1 and 2, respectively, to provide the hosts a 1-0 lead.
• After a Penman won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, each of the next three matches went to three sets.
• In the top spot, Brooker took on a player who was named NE10 All-Conference second team at No. 1 last year and eased to a first-set victory in an eventual 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 loss.
• At No. 2, Boban played through a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 setback against a student-athlete who was an all-league first team pick in the second spot for 2025-26.
• Deshayes took the opening set at No. 4 versus a Penman who was an NE10 All-Conference first team honoree at No. 3 singles last year during what ended as a 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-4 setback, which clinched the visitors their comeback victory.
• With his team down 5-1, Koppelmans earned a 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 10-7 comeback win at No. 6 to cap the match.
