SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Saint Michael's College women's volleyball team opened play on Friday at the California State University San Marcos' Cougar Classic with a pair of losses in the Sports Center. The Purple Knights fell to Bemidji State University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-12), before losing to the hosts, 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-21).

- Two LaFrenier kills helped the Purple Knights stay within 9-7 in the opening set before consecutive aces from junior Anna Paquette keyed a 4-0 run, giving the Beavers breathing room.
- LaFrenier's kill capped a 5-1 stretch that brought Saint Michael's within 14-12 in the second set, but Bemidji State scored 11 of the final 12 points.

- LaFrenier dropped a kill for the opening point of the match before Saint Michael's led 2-0, but the hosts countered with 23 of the next 28 points.
