COLCHESTER, Vt.- Junior attacker Kim Berlo
(Scituate,
Mass./Scituate) and the Saint
Michaels' women's lacrosse team (3-1, 1-0 NE-10) carried momentum
from a three-game tour of Florida into a home-opening 18-3 win over
Assumption College (0-4, 0-2 NE-10) on Thursday afternoon at Duffy
Field at Doc Jacobs Complex. Berlo led all
scorers with four goals and three assists, helping Saint Michael's
jump out to a 12-0 halftime lead.
In addition to seven points from Berlo, five
other Purple Knights tallied three points or more, including senior
Brynne Curran (Cape
Elizabeth,
Maine/Cape
Elizabeth) who chipped in four
goals and one assist. Senior Lila McCormack
(Scituate,
Mass./Scituate)
played the role of architect, setting up four Purple Knight goals,
including three in the first half. Senior goalkeeper
Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) improved
her record to 3-1 on the season with five saves, all of which came
in the first half.
For the Greyhounds, senior goalkeeper Lauren Matysiak
(Holden,
Mass./Wachusett) mitigated the
bleeding stopping 16 shots on the afternoon, including 11 in the
first half alone. Freshman Erin Theriault
(Feeding Hills,
Mass./Agawam)
recorded two assists in the first ten minutes of the second half to
end the drought for Assumption, but six more goals from Saint
Michael's in the second frame proved too many to overcome.
The Purple Knights play their second of eight straight
Northeast-10 Conference games at American International (0-6, 0-3
NE-10) on Saturday, March 29 at 2:30 p.m. Assumption travels
to Bryant (3-3, 1-1 NE-10) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. face-off as the
second of a three-game road-trip.
