SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College men's hockey team (2-0-0, 2-0-0 ECAC East) took its second definitive win in as many days, thumping the University of New England (0-2-0, 0-2-0 ECAC East) 5-0 at Cairns Arena on Saturday. Five different Purple Knights scored goals in the contest, complimenting Friday's win which featured goals from six different players.
Senior goalie Brendan Rimmer (Newbury, Mass./Pingree School) recorded his first career shutout and made 16 saves in the contest, and junior Reave MacKinnon (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Winnipeg Saints) tallied a goal and two assists. Junior Brady Earle (Columbia, Md./The Gunnery School) scored a goal and contributed an assist for the second night in a row.
Saint Michael's sophomore Dan Evarts (Hinesburg, Vt./Green Mountain Glades) smoked the game-winning, power play slap shot from straight away in the 11th minute off a pass from sophomore Morgan Bell (Revelstoke, B.C./Saint Albert Saints). Earle gave Saint Michael's the 2-0 lead later in the period, and sophomore Michael Jangro (Reading, Mass./Valley Warriors) extended the lead with a goal assisted by senior Alex Higgins (Phoenix, Ariz./Kent School). MacKinnon and sophomore Josh Geary (Wellesley, Mass./Phillips Andover Acad.) added goals in the final period to dictate a 5-0 final score. Rimmer, freshman Kevin Lampron (Dorchester, Mass./Bridgewater Bandits), and Fran Briand (South Burlington, Vt./Loomis Chaffee School) all recorded assists on the evening.
Senior goalie Mike Roper (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia/North Nova Education Center) made 38 saves for the Nor'easters in the loss.
The Purple Knights return to home action on Tuesday for the team's Northeast-10 Conference opener against Assumption at 7 p.m.
