MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College softball team
(8-22, 3-17 Northeast-10 Conference) saw its losing skid reach six
games on Wednesday with a pair of losses at Saint Anselm College,
14-4 and 9-4.
Junior Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) had a
perfect day at the plate for the Purple Knights, as she went
7-for-7 in the doubleheader with a triple, two runs and two RBIs.
In the opener, Saint Anselm (16-16, 9-9 NE-10 scored seven runs
in the second inning, erasing a 2-0 deficit, in a game halted after
4 1/2 innings due to the eight-run rule. Lauren Galavotti went
3-for-3 at the plate with a homer run, double, three RBIs and two
runs. Kayla McEachern added a triple and single, scoring twice,
while Megan Lemire pitched 4.1 innings in a winning effort.
For the Purple Knights, Colitti had three hits and two RBIs in
game one, while senior Lindsay Bernard (Scarborough,
Maine/Catherine McAuley) added two singles and two RBIs. Classmate
Heather French (Sheldon, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Saint Albans(
also singles twice and scored a run, while freshman Stephanie Frank
(Essex, Vt./Essex) suffered the complete-game loss.
In game two, the Hawks recorded 21 base hits to complete the
sweep. Moira McCabe went 5-for-5 at the plate in game two, falling
a home run short of the cycle. Jackie Giannino went 3-for-4 with a
home run and double, scoring three runs, while Shannon Dalton went
four innings on the mound to pick up the win.
For Saint Michael's, Colitti tallied four more hits in the
nightcap, while Bernard went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Senior Katelyn Billings (Saint Albans, Vt./Bellows Free
Academy-Saint Albans) singled twice and drove in a run, while
classmate Kelly Egan (Milford, Mass./Marian) took the complete-game
loss on the mound.
Saint Michael's continues its six-game road trip on Saturday
with a 12 p.m. twinbill at Southern Connecticut State University.
