LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (0-3) dropped a 17-8 decision to Franklin Pierce University on Sunday in a non-conference game played at Saint Andrews Presbyterian College.
Junior Eliza Scoba (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) scored three goals for the Purple Knights, while senior Joan Colloton (Albany, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) and freshman Crystal King (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) added two goals apiece. Freshman Alexa Coleman (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) netted her first collegiate goal for Saint Michael's, while junior Sandy Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) stopped 16 shots.
For Franklin Pierce (1-0), Mary Kate Stille recorded four goals, while Lauren Stille added three goals and an assist. Julie Hemphill tallied two goals and one assist, while Brianna Nash and Courtney Weber each scored twice. Jillian Bolduc turned aside six shots in the Ravens' successful season-opener.
Franklin Pierce held a 9-3 halftime lead, and was never seriously threatened in the second half. The Ravens held a 40-20 advantage in shots, and a 70-42 edge in ground balls. Franklin Pierce also held an 18-10 edge in draw controls, and committed just 23 turnovers compared to 36 for Saint Michael's.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. contest at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C.
