NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's
lacrosse team (2-11, 1-8 Northeast-10 Conference) couldn't keep
pace with 13th-ranked Merrimack College on Wednesday evening,
falling, 19-3.
For Merrimack (10-5, 7-4 NE-10), Mary
Pasquantonio registered a game-high five goals and two
assists, while Christina McCarron added four goals
and one assist. Colleen Strachan chipped in with
three goals and one assist, while Inna Hedden
saved three shots to earn the victory.
Senior Joan Colloton (Albany, N.Y./Academy of the Holy
Names) scored two second-half goals in the loss, extending
her goal-scoring streak to 11 games. Junior Eliza Scoba
(Franklin, Mass./Franklin) added a goal and an assist, and
also has scored a goal in each of the last 11 games, while junior
Sandy Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) stopped
14 shots.
Merrimack scored nine goals in the opening 11:35 of play to take
command early, and opened up an 11-0 halftime advantage. Colloton
got Saint Michael's on the scoreboard 26 seconds into the second
half, but the Warriors scored the next four goals to push their
lead to 15-1, ending any doubt.
Merrimack outshot Saint Michael's 39-10, and held a 22-14 edge
in ground balls. The Warriors were also successful on all 15 of
their clears, compared to just 7-of-14 for the Purple Knights.
Saint Michael's is back in action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game
at the University of New Haven.
