COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (2-14, 1-11 NE-10) dropped a tight 13-11 decision to American International College at Duffy Field on Saturday in its last contest of the season. It was the final game for six Purple Knight seniors who were honored during pregame ceremonies: Joan Colloton (Albany, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names), Sarah Gilroy (Hopkinton, N.H./Hopkinton), Meghan Herrick (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional), Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth), Elizabeth Siekman (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and Liz Siracusa (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy).
For Saint Michael's, Colloton tallied a team-high four points on three goals and an assist, and Siekman, Gilroy, and juniors Eliza Scoba (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Spenser Wolfe (West Newbury, Mass./The Governor's Academy) each scored twice. McLaughlin earned her first start of the year in net and made 14 saves.
For the Yellow Jackets (5-11, 2-10 NE-10), sisters Courtney and Ashleigh Szawlowski combined for 15 points on the day. Ashleigh scored a game-high five goals, Courtney netted four goals, and both recorded three assists. Gina Gallo played 44 minutes in net and made nine saves in the win.
The Purple Knights took a very early lead on an unassisted goal by Colloton three and half minutes in, and reclaimed a 3-2 lead on back-to-back goals by Scoba in the 21st minute. AIC proceeded to score four unanswered goals in just over four minutes of play to take a lead which they would not surrender the rest of the way.
Colloton brought Saint Michael's back within one twice: once with a goal to make it 9-8 with 2:33 left in the first half, and again with 9:31 left in the game to cut the AIC lead to 12-11. Courtney Szawlowski netted an insurance goal with 6:29 to go and the Yellow Jackets held on the rest of the way to close their season with a win.
