Men's tennis falls to regionally-ranked Bentley in second road match of season

FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team played for the fourth time in nine days on Wednesday while taking part in just its second true road match of the season, losing to regionally-ranked Bentley University, 9-0, at the Adirondack Club in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Purple Knights are 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the league after their first road contest since Feb. 26, while the Falcons are 8-5 and 3-1. Bentley is ranked seventh in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll.

Senior Ben Lambert (Milford, N.H./Milford) and sophomore Dan Foley (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) played their third straight match together at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-3 against a tandem on a four-match winning streak. The Purple Knights' other two duos combined for one game victory.

First-year Matt Mosher (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles to an opponent who won for the sixth time in seven outings, while sophomore Max Allen (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) lost 6-2, 6-1 in the sixth spot against a Falcon who remained undefeated but failed to post at least one clean set for just the second time this year. In the No. 2 position, senior Patrick Dietz (Prospect, Conn./Woodland Regional) claimed three games, the most lost by his foe in three weeks. Lambert fell in the top spot to the region's 20th-ranked player, who stayed perfect in league play and allowed one more game to the senior than he did last year.

Saint Michael's hosts Assumption College next Tuesday at 3 p.m.
