WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team concluded a challenging stretch with a 59-49 loss to regionally-ranked Assumption University on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play in Laska Gym. The Greyhounds were ninth in this week's D2SIDA East Region Media Poll.

THE ACTION

• The Purple Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead by 6:04 of the opening quarter thanks to five points by MacDonough, and Scaperrotta's jumper 56 seconds later produced a 9-3 edge.
• Assumption drew within one, but Scaperrotta knocked down a three-pointer before Ladas' lay-in pushed the lead to 14-8 with 1:40 left.
• Saint Michael's still led 16-10 on Ladas' bucket at 8:36 of the second period before five Greyhounds scored in a 15-0 run. MacDonough's lay-up with 35 seconds left made it 27-20 at halftime.
• Mieczkowski's lay-in extended the lead to 32-22 at 7:26 of the third stanza, and Assumption slowly extended the margin to 43-29 by the time graduate student Meghan Cramb put home a bucket at 3:45.
• Spain's free throw with 2:06 left in the contest had the Greyhounds in front 58-41 before Saint Michael's scored eight of the final nine points, with Brophy's hoop at 36 seconds creating the final margin.
