COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's basketball junior forward
Jayla Tyler (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central/Saint Rose) was named to the Northeast 10 Conference All-Conference second team and the seven-player NE10 All-Defensive Team on Wednesday, as voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Tyler, who claimed her first career postseason accolades, was among 17 student-athletes named all-conference, and one of five placed on the second squad. Tyler leads the NE10 in offensive rebounding (3.4) after pacing the conference last season (3.8), one year after playing in only 13 games for The College of Saint Rose, which qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament before the school closed. She is also second in double-doubles (9), tied for fifth in blocks (22), sixth in rebounding (7.5), ninth in scoring (13.4) and field goal shooting (45.7%), and tied for ninth in steals per game (1.8).
Tyler has scored in double figures 22 times this season, including 18 times in 19 tries since Dec. 19; she scored nine points in the other game. Eight of Tyler's double-doubles have come in 18 games since Dec. 21, with her averages spiking to 15.9 points on 48.5% shooting and 9.2 boards in those 18 contests. She netted a career-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting with 11 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, during a 66-55 win at Saint Anselm College last Tuesday.
At 15-12, the Purple Knights visit top-seeded Bentley University, which was ninth in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) national poll, for an NE10 Championship semifinal on Thursday at 6 p.m. Saint Michael's, which plays its first semifinal since 1992, was 10th in last week's NCAA East Region rankings, while the Falcons were first.
