Men's Ice Hockey Doubles Up Franklin Pierce, 6-3, to Open NE10 Weekend

WINCHENDON, Mass. - Eleven players collected points as the Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team doubled up Franklin Pierce University, 6-3, on Friday evening at Ritchie Ice Arena. The Northeast-10 Conference series continues on Saturday.

THE ACTION

  • Bavis kickstarted a flurry of three Purple Knight goals in an 8:17 span of the first period, chasing a loose puck through neutral ice to gain a breakaway before making a move on Martin to finish up close at 7:51.
  • Taylor later carried through neutral ice into the right circle and rung a shot off the post and in with 14:44 gone. Schreiner put home a third effort at 16:08 to push the led to 3-0.
  • Murphy maintained the lead at 12:10 of the second period by going into a split to make a glove save of senior Dom Norris.
  • Stevenson cracked the scoring column at 14:35, putting in a bouncing puck during a power play.
  • A little less than three minutes later, quick passing led to another Saint Michael's goal, as first-year Ashton Allain (Brentwood, Tenn./Walpole Express) and Schreiner completed short passes to set Rudicus up at the doorstep at 17:31.
  • Foley struck for another power-play goal at 7:42 of the third period, backhanding a shot from the right circle.
  • The Purple Knights had a quick response, as McCarthy and Routh worked a give-and-go before Routh slipped a shot past Martin at 9:51.
  • Horan beat the defense up the right wing to tally at 13:05, but Kantgias made a power move of his own through the left circle before finishing on an empty net with 31 seconds remaining.
