GAME FACTS

  • The Purple Knights' last seven wins over the Penmen have all come by at least three goals.
  • Beaver, Gagnon and McCarthy all scored their first college goals.
  • Murphy registered the first point by a Purple Knight goalie since Eric McGuirk '13 on Dec. 2, 2011, also the secondary helper on a power play.
  • Saint Michael's went 45-for-85 on faceoffs, while Southern New Hampshire held a 37-28 lead in shots.

THE ACTION

  • With 9:16 gone in the opening period and Southern New Hampshire on the power play, sophomore Ryan Clear sent a pass from the blue line that DiMambro redirected from the slot for the go-ahead tally.
  • Murphy kept it 1-0 at intermission by denying first-year Alex Muthersbaugh and senior Ryan Coady on back-to-back shots out front in the dying seconds.
  • Saint Michael's scored the next seven goals, beginning at 4:12 of the second frame when Taylor's backhanded pass from the boards sprung McCarthy for a breakaway. He finished five-hole.
  • Taylor went blocker side on Mercer from the right circle during a power play with 9:20 gone, and Gagnon took a giveaway and immediately fired on net from the left circle to beat Mercer, who was under pressure from sophomore Jack Bavis (West Roxbury, Mass./Valley Jr. Warriors) only 1:07 later.
  • In the third frame, McFarland finished an odd-man rush with Schreiner just 56 seconds in by tallying over a prone netminder.
  • Kantgias buried another power-play strike at 4:27, snapping a shot over Mercer's left shoulder from the right circle, and Beaver scored just 44 seconds later by whipping the puck on net from the right point.
  • McFarland and Schreiner again combined on a goal at 11:50, with Schreiner tipping home McFarland's shot from the left circle.
  • Thurston completed the bookending scoring for Southern New Hampshire by bursting past two defenders and over the blue line before making a nice move out front during a power play at 12:49.
