GAME FACTS
- Each of the Purple Knights' last seven wins over the Penmen were by at least three goals, including Friday's 7-2 victory, while the last four losses came by a single tally.
- Manahan's 57 saves tied for the fifth-highest total in program history, matching Chris Johnson '19 on Dec. 5, 2015, for the most by a Purple Knight since Simon Theberge '02 had 62 on Dec. 29, 2001. Manahan's save total was the highest ever for Saint Michael's in an NE10 game, and he matched Johnson for the program's rookie saves mark.
THE ACTION
- Manahan made 21 saves in a shutout first period, while Bavis did the only scoring, tallying at 17:53 after picking off a pass just inside the blue line and beating Mercer high to his glove side.
- With one minute remaining in the stanza, Manahan pushed across the crease to rob sophomore Jack Gray with a glove save at the right post during a Penmen power play.
- Clear put the visitors on the board with 7:23 gone in the second frame during a power play, roofing a shot from the left point.
- Flynn snapped the tie at 6:33 of the third period, taking senior Ryan Coady's pass from the left corner and one-timing a shot from between the top of the circles.
- Manahan vacated his net in favor of an extra skater with 2:01 remaining, and the Purple Knights benefited from a pileup in the crease only seconds later by being awarded a penalty shot at 18:10. Sophomore Brennan McFarland (Greeley, Colo./Northern Colorado Eagles) took the shot, juking Mercer and nearly slipping a shot inside the right post, but the netminder extended with his left toe to make the save.
- In the waning second, McFarland raced through the right circle and fired, but Mercer snapped a glove save as the final buzzer sounded.
