Mudrak Posts 46-Save Shutout, Women's Ice Hockey Draws Franklin Pierce

WINCHENDON, Mass. - Junior Carissa Mudrak's (Duluth, Minn./Gentry Academy) 46-save shutout lifted the Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team to a scoreless tie with Franklin Pierce University during a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) contest on Friday evening in Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

THE ACTION

  • Mudrak made a pair of saves late in the first period during a Raven power play to keep the game scoreless, with sophomore Angelina Ruiz (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy) adding a block in that time.
  • Mudrak rejected four more shots just before the mid-period media timeout in the second frame, including three in an eight-second span that ended at 11:59.
  • Harrison had two blocks and Mudrak a pair of saves as the Purple Knights killed a penalty that started at 14:01.
  • Saint Michael's put four shots on net during a woman advantage that started at 18:29, but Ruiz, senior Callie Wiley (Andover, Mass./Andover), and juniors Mary Leys (Newport, R.I./Saint George's School) and Jace Zapata (Brea, Calif./Gentry Academy) were all turned away.
  • In the final two minutes of the third period, Mudrak made five more saves to ensure overtime, while Harrison and Ruiz each blocked a shot.
  • Kennard had back-to-back shots stopped 1:15 into the extra stanza before Mudrak denied consecutive shots from senior Ava Kison 30 seconds later.
