Women's Ice Hockey Caps Weekend Series with Loss to Sacred Heart

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team capped a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) weekend series against Sacred Heart University with a 4-0 loss on Saturday in Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION

  • The Purple Knights had a pair of good chances early, with Leys firing from the right circle at the three-minute mark of the opening period but hitting Greene's blocker, and Harrison forcing the netminder into a left pad save on a shot from the slot at 4:40.
  • Keenan put the Pioneers on the board with 6:49 gone, one-timing home senior Charlotte Huntington's pass from behind the net low to Lavender's glove side.
  • Lavender rejected sophomore Sydney Antonakis' bid from the left circle with a nice blocker stop at 13:15.
  • Lizotte doubled the lead 1:55 into the second period, sending in a shot from the point past a screened Lavender.
  • DeLong made it 3-0 at 5:16, pushing a rebound under the prone netminder after her initial stop of first-year Julianna Koman's shot from the point.
  • Lavender rejected Mackay's breakaway bid at 16:45 by deflecting a shot off of her helmet over the net.
  • Keenan closed the scoring at 11:53 of the third period, cashing in a power-play goal on the rebound of Mackay's saved shot.
