THE ACTION
- The teams exchanged five leads in the opening 2:38, with Gardner knocking down two three-pointers 27 seconds apart to give the Purple Knights a 10-5 edge by 16:55 of the first half.
- Jackson's lay-up tied the teams at 12 with 14:43 left before Gardner hit a jumper 21 seconds later.
- Jackson turned in the next four points to put the Hawks up, but Crews knocked down a jumper to knot the game at 16-16 by 11:42. Saint Michael's was within 25-23 following first-year Nic Button's (Skaneateles, N.Y./Cheshire Academy) two free throws with 7:54 to go.
- Saint Anselm responded with a 17-2 run that took 5:08 to elapse, with Paul scoring seven points and Tention knocking down a pair of threes.
- Saint Michael's twice chipped the deficit to 14 on Gardner baskets before halftime, and a Gardner triple at 18:01 of the second half made it 49-36.
- The next 10 points came from the Hawks, who never again led by fewer than 21 points.
