THE ACTION

  • Franklin Pierce scored twice in 2:23 of the first period to take early command, as Rumsey scored on a slapshot from the right circle at 10:30 before Norris' power-play one-timer from the left circle made it 2-0 with 12:53 gone.
  • First-year Devin Rohrich sent a pass from behind the net that Dobek one-timed over Murphy's blocker at 17:26.
  • The Purple Knights tied the game thanks to a three-goal spurt in 2:21 of the second period. Kantgias carried the length of the ice before picking the corner on McDonald's blocker side at 5:27, and Saint Michael's drew within one at 7:30 during a power play, as McDonald made a blocker save of Routh's initial shot, but the puck popped into the air, and Taylor batted it down for the tally.
  • Only 10 seconds later, Rudicus gained the right circle with speed and crossed for Schreiner, whose one-timer from the inside edge of the left circle leveled the score.
  • Routh came through with a key defensive interruption of a Raven 2-on-1 break around 10:40, and Rudicus gave his team the lead with 21 seconds remaining, picking off a pass at the blue line and hitting the corner over the netminder's blocker.
  • Carlo evened things once more at 8:23 of the third period, going five-hole on Manahan from the right circle after taking Rohrich's touch pass.
  • Sophomore Ryland Dukes (Nashville, Tenn./Walpole Express) set up the winner in the late stages, backhanding a pass into open ice near the blue line to spring Macdonald for a breakaway, which he finished five-hole at 14:01.
  • With McDonald pulled for an extra skater, graduate student Anthony Nikolopoulos nearly struck for another tying goal at 18:44 but sent his one-timer from the slot wide of the right post.
  • Saint Michael's padded its lead in the final minute, as Taylor won a defensive-zone faceoff, Routh chipped the puck off the boards in the neutral zone, and McCarthy outraced the final defender to the puck before beating him to the outside and finishing on an empty net with 32 seconds to go.
