Field Hockey Drops Conference Matchup Against New Haven, 5-3

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match-up to the University of New Haven, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium.

GAME FACTS
  • With 32 career goals, Loughlin passed Cassaundra Davis '15 (31) to take over seventh in program history. She is also now alone in seventh in points (79), breaking a tie with Davis (75).
  • The Purple Knights outshot the Chargers 27-19 on the day.
  • The Chargers scored five unanswered goals after the Purple Knights scored the first two goals of the game.
  • Both squads utilized two goalkeepers during the match.
THE ACTION
  • Cathcart took a penalty corner in the ninth minute of the game and was unmarked on the back post after sending the ball to Loughlin at the top of the circle. Lord found Cathcart and she was able to tap the pass into the goal to break the stalemate.  
  • Loughlin extended the lead to two in the 11th minute after Biondi saved an errant pass from going out of bounds on the end line, which Loughlin then fired on net to score.
  • Beaujouan scored the first New Haven goal in the 25th minute after Nixon found her in front of the net, and she was able to redirect the pass into the bottom right of the cage.  
  • Trammel took a penalty corner in the 36th minute and send a pass to the top of the circle Jacobson, who sent a pass back to a cutting Trammel, who deflected the ball at the front of the cage into the net to tie the game.
  • Boers stole the ball near midfield in the 40th minute and travelled up the sideline and into the circle where she scored the third straight Charger goal.
  • Larson was able to score the fourth goal for the Chargers following a scrum near the cage that ended up with a loose ball near her stick that she tapped in to extend the lead to two in the 48th minute.
  • Cavan scored on an assist from Trammel directly off a penalty corner in the 49th minute for the fifth straight Charger goal.
  • Loughlin scored her second goal of the match in the 53rd minute on a penalty shot to cut the lead down to two.
  • The Purple Knights took four more shots on goal before the end of the game, but Saigh saved each and kept the Purple and Gold from cutting the lead down any further.
