PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team lost to Pace University, 1-0, on Sunday during Northeast-10 Conference action in Northwell Stadium.

  • Today's contest the was fourth straight one-goal meeting between the teams.

THE ACTION
  • In the seventh minute, sophomore Faith Kosiba (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional) challenged the Pace defense before stopping on a dime to create space in the box and fire a shot that Fiore had to reach up to bat down to deny.
  • Junior Emilia McGiffert's (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School/Minnesota Duluth) one-touch from the center of the box sent Fiore diving for another stop in the 22nd minute.
  • Graduate student Cecilia Puentes hit the left side of the net from close range early in the 42nd minute for the Setters' lone bid of the half, as Saint Michael's held a 5-1 shot lead at halftime.
  • Selvaggio put her team on top late in the 50th minute, chipping a shot from the right side of the box just under the crossbar.
  • In the 65th minute, Fiore rushed from the net to challenge a Purple Knight ball carrier, and a loose ball ended up at the feet of Kosiba, who fired off the right post with the net covered by Setter field players.
  • Saint Michael's had another chance shortly thereafter, as senior Claire Williams (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) ripped a shot that forced Fiore to dive for the left post in the 67th minute for what proved to be the visitors' last good opportunity.
  • Stevens-Cardin made a diving stop of her own off of sophomore Ava Viebrock's 88th-minute bid to keep the Purple Knights within a goal.
