Men's Basketball Downed by Division I Vermont During Exhibition Affair

Box Score BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team lost to Division I University of Vermont, 65-47, during an exhibition game on Wednesday evening in Patrick Gymnasium.

GAME FACTS
  • Vermont won five of the past seven America East Conference Championships and appeared in four of the last six NCAA Division I Tournaments.
  • Saint Michael's forced 13 turnovers by the Catamounts while committing 11.
THE ACTION
  • Neither team led by more than three points until the Catamounts knocked down four straight free throws to lead 12-5 by 14:56 of the opening half.
  • Ten seconds after checking into the game, Fricas threw down a breakaway dunk at 13:49 to spark a 6-2 run, which he capped with a pair of free throws with 11:55 left (14-11).
  • Ayo-Faleye converted consecutive buckets to kick off a 12-5 stretch that put Vermont up 26-16 with 6:14 left.
  • On the strength of a Reid triple and three straight Marold free throws, the visitors trailed 26-22 by 4:05, and another Marold freebie (1:35) had Saint Michael's within 30-25 at halftime.
  • Vermont started the second half on a 12-3 run, with Ayo-Faleye (4), Deloney (3) and Long (5) doing all of the scoring. The Purple Knights trimmed their deficit to 12 twice down the stretch but came no closer.
