Women's Ice Hockey Loses NEWHA Affair at Stonehill

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team opened a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) weekend set against Stonehill College with a 6-1 loss on Friday in Bridgewater Ice Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Sophomore Maddison Achtyl put Stonehill up 11:26 into the first period during a power play, scoring to Gyurko's glove side from up close after taking a quick feed from Petford.
  • The Purple Knights drew even at 17:40, as Quinn scored from the right point directly off of Gerebi's faceoff win.
  • The Skyhawks scored four times in a 7:08 span that stretched between the second and third periods to forge ahead and pull away. Petford tallied the first two, finishing in the slot at 14:12 of the second before picking the top corner during an odd-woman rush with 18:39 gone.
  • Whaley put home a power-play strike 25 seconds into the third, tapping in Feeney's pass from the right circle, and junior Josie Mendeszoon's shot hit Saint Michael's sticks before finding the net at 1:20.
  • First-year Makenna Slocum scored from the right point at 16:58 for insurance.
