Women's Ice Hockey Opens Weekend Set with 5-2 Loss at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team opened a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) weekend series at Saint Anselm College with a 5-2 loss on Friday in Sullivan Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Lavender made eight saves during a scoreless first period.
  • Kelly put the Purple Knights ahead at 7:05 of the second during a power play, finding the net from the slot. Sophomore Lauren Fisher (Rothesay, New Brunswick/Rothesay Netherwood School) and first-year Victoria FitzGibbon (Stittsville, Ontario/East Ottawa Junior Stars U22 AA) assisted.
  • Saint Anselm netted the final three goals of the stanza, with Donovan tallying on a power play at 11:11 for the equalizer. Tulchinsky (18:45) and Donovan (19:24) later scored 39 seconds apart, with the former scoring on a rebound and the latter putting home a one-timer.
  • Weber redirected a teammate's shot for a 5-on-3 tally at 9:29 of the third, and Donovan finished her hat trick by sending home a rebound from the slot exactly two minutes later.
  • Ruiz converted a failed clear into a power-play strike with 16:49 gone, sending a slap shot from above the circles into the left side of the net.
