Men's Lacrosse Falls to Saint Rose During First Home Night Game

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team lost to The College of Saint Rose, 16-9, on Wednesday evening during Northeast-10 Conference play on Duffy Field. The contest was the first for the Purple Knights under the new permanent lights on Duffy Field.

Saint Michael's received votes toward both national polls this week, while the Golden Knights received national votes from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) as recently as last week.

THE ACTION

  • Smith opened the scoring at 9:58 of the first quarter before Baker (7:43) and senior Gabriel Nish (7:13) scored 30 seconds apart on the man advantage. Smith pushed the lead to 4-0 by 4:05.
  • Chirgwin scored with five seconds left, but Baker tallied twice, with the opener coming man up, to start a 4-0 run that gave Saint Rose an 8-1 edge by 2:07 of the second stanza.
  • Simonson went on a personal 5-1 run to draw Saint Michael's within 9-6 by 2:32 of the third quarter. He tallied a natural hat trick in a matter of 2:55 to begin the stretch before scoring twice in 49 seconds to cap it.
  • Baker (2:01) and Katavolos (1:00) traded goals before Saint Rose scored the next four goals to begin pulling away, as Baker's third man-up marker of the game made it 14-7 at 12:47 of the fourth period.
