Purple Knights Fall to Saint Thomas Aquinas in Non-Conference Action, 3-1

SPARKILL, N.Y. - First-year Alvaro Macias-Cazorla (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain/The American School of Las Palmas) netted his first college goal, but the Saint Michael's College men's soccer team fell to regionally-ranked Saint Thomas Aquinas College by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday at Spartan Field. Saint Thomas Aquinas was 10th in this week's United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.

  • Koons made a save on a penalty kick in the 14th minute to keep it a 1-0 game.
  • The Spartans scored again in the 16th minute to extend their lead to 2-0, as Moni found the back of the net.
  • Macias-Cazorla headed his goal in the 53rd minute to the top corner of the net on a cross from Miralles to cut the Spartans lead in half.
  • Barrett made three saves in less than three minutes in between the 70:52 mark and the 73:09 mark.  
  • In the 76th minute, Evans dribbled outside the box and sent the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to capture the third goal of the day for the Spartans.
  • Only two more shots were taken between both teams in between Evans' goal and the end of the contest, both going wide of their respective nets.
