Barrett Blanks Bentley, Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Tie

WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior Liam Barrett (Saugus, Mass./Malden Catholic/UMass Lowell) posted three saves and was aided by a key defensive stop by junior Tyler Santaniello (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) as the Saint Michael's College men's soccer team played Bentley University to a scoreless draw on Saturday night during Northeast-10 Conference play at the Bentley Soccer Field.

  • In a first half that featured only five shots between the teams, sophomore Mikel Penin (Bergara, Basque Country/Ipintza Institutua/Spring Hill) had the best look for either team, drilling a 36th-minute free kick from the right sideline on a diving Maldarella.
  • Bentley nearly broke through in the 68th minute, as sophomore Luke Mollenhauer headed a teammate's corner kick cross toward the right side of the net, but junior Tyler Santaniello (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) touched the ball off the goal line as Barrett dove behind him.
  • Barrett covered first-year Antonio Santos' back-heel flick from out front in the 79th minute.
  • With less than 10 seconds left, senior Dan Colbert (Scituate, Mass./Walpole) blasted a shot from 15 yards out just wide of the right post.
