Women's Soccer Edged by No. 25 Saint Anselm, 2-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team lost a close 2-1 decision to 25th-ranked Saint Anselm College on Wednesday evening during Northeast-10 Conference play at Duffy Field. The Hawks' national ranking is according to the United Soccer Coaches, which also has them slotted third in the East Region.

THE ACTION
  • Saint Michael's had a good look in the 13th minute, as sophomore Bella DelVecchio (Saugus, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) sent a long pass 20 yards into the box for Crowell, whose header went directly to Warner.
  • DiGilio put Saint Anselm ahead at 17:53, as a pair of Hawk passes made their way diagonally through the box toward the right post, where DiGilio finished.
  • Rutherford doubled the lead 4:55 later, taking senior Olivia Gotobed's centering cross through the box.
  • Junior Emilia McGiffert (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School/Minnesota Duluth) ran onto senior Claire Williams' (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) centering feed in the 49th minute but sent a point-blank shot from the middle of the box off of a charging Warner.
  • DelVecchio fired a shot from distance in the 68th minute that Warner tipped over the crossbar.
  • Crowell halved the deficit at 73:12, pouncing on a rebound of her own blocked shot to slip a shot inside the left post. She nearly knotted the game only 12 seconds later, but Warner made a sliding save in the box.
  • While Saint Michael's controlled possession in the second half, Crowell's chances were her team's final shots.
