Field Hockey Suffers 3-2 Setback to Southern Connecticut State

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team lost to Southern Connecticut State University, 3-2, on Saturday during a Northeast-10 Conference contest at Duffy Field.

  • Each of the Purple Knights' last three games were one-goal decisions.
  • Loughlin has played a hand in 10 of the Purple and Gold's 11 goals this season, scoring six and assisting four more. Dating back to last year, she had a role in 16 of the past 19 tallies.
THE ACTION
  • Saint Michael's scored on its first two shots, which went as the only attempts by either team in the opening quarter. Loughlin drove the end line before dishing past an extended Miller to find Medeiros for the initial tally 5:48 into the contest. At 12:10, Biondi tipped home Loughlin's penalty corner blast from the top of the circle.
  • Watt kept her team ahead 2-0 by denying junior Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti's backhanded, point-blank rip from the middle of the circle late in the 24th minute.
  • Shortly thereafter, Rodriguez Ricchiuti sent a corner feed to Geaglone, who tallied from the edge of the circle at 24:40.
  • Fiato drew the teams even just 3:10 later, tapping home a loose ball after Watt sprawled for a save.
  • Shapiro maintained the 2-2 score with a 41st-minute defensive save, blocking Geaglone's shot in midair.
  • Andros found the winner in the 49th minute, tipping home sophomore Mia Oliverio's long pass through Watt's five-hole.
  • The Purple Knights ran one final corner play in the 56th minute, but Loughlin's attempt from the perimeter was blocked.
