Women's Ice Hockey Opens Weekend Series with 4-2 Loss to Post

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team opened a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) series against Post University with a 4-2 loss on Friday at Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Lavender made 16 stops in the first period, when Post potted the only goal. With 14:16 gone, Currie tipped home Noonan's pass from the left circle to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
  • First-year Ella Oakes (Akwesasne, N.Y./Vermont Academy) nearly leveled the score 3:13 into the second period, but her point-blank shot from low in the left circle was denied by Saunders.
  • Sophomore Tymmarie Grom got behind the Purple Knight defense before ringing the left post with 8:46 gone.
  • At 10:30, Fisher redirected Tribelli's shot into the slot for the tying power-play marker.
  • Post scored twice final five minutes, with Wysocki knocking home a rebound at the left post at 15:07 and Patfield slipping a shot over Lavender's far shoulder from the low right circle with four seconds to go.
  • Noonan extended the lead to 4-1 45 seconds into the third period, tipping in junior Sajel Desai's shot.
  • The Purple Knights responded only 1:10 later, with Zapata redirecting Jerylo's pass out front.
  • Saint Michael's drew no closer while also sending no shots on goal with Lavender pulled for an extra skater for the final 1:26.
