Women's Ice Hockey Loses 4-1 Decision to Stonehill

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost a 4-1 decision to Stonehill College on Friday evening during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play in Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Leys converted on a power play with 6:18 gone in the opening period, stuffing home a rebound of Quinn's saved shot.
  • Sacca tied the game at 9:08, sending a shot from the right circle off of a Saint Michael's skate through Lavender's five-hole.
  • Petford made it 2-1 on a power play at 14:10, taking a giveaway off the boards before maneuvering through the right circle and roofing an attempt home from out front.
  • Lavender slid from post to post to deny Sacca's backhanded try 1:26 into the second period.
  • Geist pushed the lead to 3-1 at 6:36, one-timing in sophomore Maddie Achtyl's pass from behind the net.
  • Petford tallied again on a power play with 11:37 gone, turning in the slot and slipping a shot inside the left post.
  • McGillis' blocked shot with a little more than a minute to go rebounded into neutral ice, springing Gerebi for a breakaway, but the puck rolled off of her stick as she made a move under pressure from a backcheck while nearing the crease.
  • Geist ripped a shot from the slot 15:25 into the third period that Gyurko smothered.
