Women's Ice Hockey Caps Challenging Stretch with Setback at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team finished a stretch of four games in five days with a 6-0 loss to the University of Vermont on Tuesday evening in Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts received votes toward the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) national poll.

THE ACTION
  • First-year Victoria FitzGibbon's (Stittsville, Ontario/East Ottawa Junior Stars U22 AA) slapshot from the blue line with 2:36 gone in the opening frame was blocked by a Catamount before senior Mikaela Langbacka's (Lorton, Va./Washington Pride) follow-up bid down front was smothered by Simmons.
  • Lavender denied sophomore Krista Parkkonen's one-timer from the slot with a glove stop at 8:12.
  • Mlýnková put Vermont ahead at 15:32, stuffing a backhander home at the left post.
  • Less than a minute later, Lavender denied graduate student Sara Levesque's shot before Skelton tallied on an empty right side of the net with 16:26 gone.
  • Lavender kept it 2-0 at 7:06 of the second period by diving across a vacated crease to deny Lewis' sure goal.
  • Blais-Savoie and Lewis scored in similar fashions at 9:51 and 13:34, respectively, beating Lavender to her glove side corner from the left circle.
  • In between, sophomore Elisabeth Gerebi (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen) nearly found the net at 11:17, breaking in alone on Simmons, who made a blocker rejection.
  • Oien and Blais-Savoie padded the lead in an otherwise quiet third period at 15:26 and 15:42, respectively, on a backdoor tap-in and a tally from the right circle.
