Men's Ice Hockey Downed by Southern New Hampshire, 4-1, in NE10 Contest

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team began a Northeast-10 weekend set with a 4-1 setback against Southern New Hampshire University on Friday evening in Cairns Arena.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights held the advantage in shots on goal, 32-29, and faceoffs, 40-36.
THE ACTION
  • Southern New Hampshire struck first at 8:50 in the first period when Hirschberger won a faceoff back to junior Ryan Clear, who found Murray for a wrist shot in between the two faceoff circles that beat Murphy on the glove side to give the Penmen a 1-0 lead.
  • Southern New Hampshire converted on the power play at 14:32 when Muthersbaugh took a slapshot from the point to double the Penmen's lead.  
  • The Penmen scored the third goal of the night at 15:06 of the second period when Minnig took a wrist shot from the point that deflected off a Purple Knight defender and past Murphy to give the Penmen a 3-0 lead.
  • Southern New Hampshire scored on the power play with 1:30 left in the second period when Pomposelli netted the puck on the rebound off a shot from junior Connor Ball for the fourth goal of the night.
  • McFarland netted the Purple Knights' goal at 8:15 of the third period on a slapshot from the point, assisted by Bloom and McCarthy, on the power play to make the score 4-1.
  • The Purple Knights took 10 more shots following the goal from McFarland but could not convert to shorten the Penmen's lead.
