COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team began the 2024 slate with a 61-45 loss to University of New Haven on Wednesday night in the Ross Sports Center during Northeast-10 Conference play.

THE ACTION

• After Laggis scored on a driving layup for the first bucket of the game, the Chargers went on an 8-0 run led by six points from Hogan capped off by her shot from beyond the arc at 6:31 to put New Haven up by six.
• Laggis and Blake combined on 3-for-3 shooting during the Purple and Gold's -2 run to get it back within 10-8 at 4:46.
• The Chargers created space at the end of the quarter when Hogan hit another shot from deep to make the score 14-8 at 2:46, but Blake's shot from the charity stripe with three seconds left to made the score 14-11.
• Brianna Furch tied the game by hitting a shot from deep to start the second stanza for the Purple Knights, which ignited an 8-4 run capped off by her sister's three-pointer at 6:06 to make the score 19-18 in favor of the Purple and Gold.
• The Chargers finished the second quarter by going on a 16-6 run in the final 5:29, led by seven points from Dowding and six from Pendleton, including her turnaround jumper in the paint with two seconds left to make the score 34-25 going into the locker rooms.
• The second half started off with Bassett scoring four points for the Chargers in a 6-2 run, capped off by her layup at 7:19 of the third period to put the Chargers up 40-27.
• Amber Furch hit her first of two three-pointers of the third quarter at 7:01, before the Chargers scored seven points to close out the third period, finished by Hogan's layup at 1:49 to make the score 47-34.
• New Haven created space in the beginning of the fourth quarter with an 8-3 run, powered by 2-for-2 shooting from deep, including Hogan's shot beyond the arc at 7:27 to make the score 55-37.

• The Purple Knights went on a 6-0 run started at 7:03 with a layup from senior Paige Slaven (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) and finished with a bucket from Laggis at 4:46.

• The Chargers pulled away with a 6-2 run in the final 4:12 of the matchup seeing three different players record points.
