NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team lost to Southern Connecticut State University, 65-50, on Saturday afternoon at James Moore Field House during Northeast-10 Conference play.

THE ACTION
  • The Owls went on a 6-0 run to give them an 8-3 lead at 4:27 in the first quarter on a bucket from junior Renza Milner.
  • Sophomore Julie Lyden (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) hit a turnaround jumper for the Purple Knights at 2:29 to end the Owls' run before junior Delaney Haines knocked down a three at 1:58 to push the Owls ahead by six.
  • Senior Kelly Laggis (Fairfield, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) hit a jumper at 1:32 of the second period to pull her team within 19-18, but the hosts went into the locker room ahead by three points.
  • Southern Connecticut State scored the first three points of the third quarter, but the Purple Knights came back with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 26 on Slaven's three-pointer at 8:04.
  • The host Owls later responded with an 11-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer by Haines at 4:05 that made it 40-29.
  • Amber Furch and Brophy hit back-to-back shots to put the Purple and Gold back within six points at 3:14, but the Owls came back with seven consecutive points to increase the lead to 13.
  • Brianna Furch hit a jumper with 24 seconds left that sparked a 9-0 run that carried into the fourth quarter, bringing the Purple Knights within 47-43 on Slaven's layup at 5:08.
  • The Owls scored the next nine points to begin pulling away, as four players made baskets.
