Miller Places 10th, Both Cross Country Squads Crack Top Seven at Kirsh Cup

CONTOOCOOK, N.H. - First-year Jersey Miller (Minneapolis, Minn./Saint Louis Park) took 10th place and both Saint Michael's College cross country squads cracked the top seven at Franklin Pierce University's 20-school Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup on Friday at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.
 
TEAM RESULTS
  • The Saint Michael's women, who were ninth in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Region poll, placed fifth among 19 schools with 157 points, trimming sixth-place Southern New Hampshire University by one point. The Penmen were seventh in the most recent regional rankings. Both trailed fourth-place Southern Connecticut State University (113), which is fourth in the East, for the top spot among non-Division I institutions.
  • The women's field also featured champion University of Connecticut (28), which is fifth in the USTFCCCA Division I Northeast Region rankings while receiving votes toward the national poll. Fellow Division I squads University of Maine (47) and University of Massachusetts (105) capped the top three.
  • The Purple Knight men took seventh in a 20-school field, totaling 178 points to edge the eighth-place University of New Haven (181) and narrowly trail sixth-place Southern New Hampshire (173), which was fourth in the latest regional rankings.
  • Otherwise, Saint Michael's was behind a trio of Division I squads in champion Maine (36), UMass Lowell (64) and UMass (68), the latter two of which are top 10 in the Northeast rankings; host Franklin Pierce (121), which is eighth in the East; and Plymouth State University (147), which holds 10th place in the Division III East Region poll.
