COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team lost to Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 3-2, during Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday at Duffy Field.

THE ACTION
  • The Purple and Gold nearly converted in the seventh minute on a shot in front of the cage from first-year Ruby Harrington (Barre, Vt./Spaulding), but Galison made a defensive save to keep the Purple Knights off the scoreboard.
  • O'Connor came out of the cage to make a stop on a breakaway in the 14th minute by senior Nicola Van Vuuren to stop the Spartans from converting a late first-period goal.
  • The Spartans scored early in the second quarter in the 17th minute after Heijmans tapped in a loose ball following a scrum in front of the goal line to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
  • Medeiros scored for the Purple Knights in the 37th minute by tipping Loughlin's pass from the point during a penalty corner sequence to equalize the game at 1-1.
  • Galison converted on a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute to give Saint Thomas Aquinas a 2-1 lead.
  • The Spartans scored in the final minute of the contest when Galison sent a pass from the end line in front of the cage that found Verstraten, who connected for a goal making the score 3-1 with 23 seconds left.
  • The Purple Knights scored with one second remaining in the game when Fenton sent a pass from the point into the circle that Boucher redirected to score and trim the deficit to 3-2.
