Field Hockey Loses to New Haven, 6-5 in Overtime, on Senior Day

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team lost to the University of New Haven, 6-5 in overtime, on Senior Day during Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday at Duffy Field.
 
Prior to the game, the Purple Knights honored graduate student Bridgie Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) and seniors Morgan Cathcart (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield), Anna Comiskey (Highgate, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/VTSU Castleton), Addy Fenton (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy), Rees Lord (North Reading, Mass./North Reading), Allie Medeiros (East Greenwich, R.I./Saint Mary Academy - Bay View), Riley O'Connor (Canton, Mass./Canton) and Chloe Sapienza (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown).

  • Loughlin now has 110 career points, within three of Seanna Poelaert '00 for second in program history and seven short of Andrea Slaven's '09 record. Loughlin's 43rd career goal matched Patty Porter '89 for third in school annals, and her 24th assist tied Sarah Alves '01 for second all-time.
  • O'Connor has 417 career saves, only four short of Nicki Collette '99 for second in program history.
THE ACTION
  • Brown put New Haven on the board in the sixth minute with a third effort, but Lord tied the game in the 13th off of a shot during a corner sequence.
  • Nixon twice converted tip-ins, in the 22nd and 30th minutes, to make it 3-1, but Fenton potted a penalty stroke with 29 seconds left in the opening half to trim the deficit.
  • Harrington's redirection out front tied the game in the 33rd minute, but Nixon put in a one-timer 1:40 later to make it 4-3 in the 34th minute.
  • Sapienza's lead pass helped Loughlin tie the contest in the 46th minute.
  • Nixon's redirection in the 53rd minute again provided New Haven a lead, but Harrington turned and shot amid a mass of bodies in the circle at 54:46 to send the teams to overtime.
  • Late in the first extra period, Jacobson connected on a corner shot from the top of the arc at 66:54 to send New Haven home a winner.
