Women's Ice Hockey Defeated by Providence in Teams' First Meeting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost its first meeting ever with Providence College, 8-0, on Friday evening at Schneider Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Lavender made 18 saves during the first period, as only Kraft was able to get a puck by her, from the slot with 11:16 gone.
  • The Friars padded their lead with two goals in a 3:40 span of the second frame, as graduate student Millie Sirum finished senior Ashley Clark's backdoor pass at 3:21 before sophomore Audrey Knapp roofed a shot from the low left circle to make it 3-0.
  • In between, sophomore Anna Jerylo (Stillwater, Minn./Gentry Academy) nearly halved the deficit, forcing Walinski into stopping her bid from the left circle at 4:12.
  • First-year Jessie Pellerin tipped in a pass at 13:33 before Kraft tallied again following a giveaway in the slot 2:39 later.
  • Saint Michael's earned a 1:23 two-woman advantage in the third period, during which first-year Julia Chedel (Haverhill, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) twice had shots blocked by Friar skaters before ringing the post at 7:45.
  • First-year Emma Hofbauer added to the advantage with a slap shot from the left circle at 10:07 during a power play, and Providence added two goals in the final 2:21 of regulation.
