- The Purple Knights turned in more kills than New Haven (48-47), each team had 12 aces, while the visitors earned narrow edges in digs (74-70) and blocks (11-8).
- Báez Rentas, the lone player in program history among the top 10 in both career assists (1,991) and digs (1,025), is nine assists away from becoming one of a handful of NE10 players with 2,000 assists and 1,000 digs. No Purple Knight has reached the 2,000/1,000 club.
THE ACTION
- New Haven's 10-6 lead in the opening set was the largest by either team until the final tally. Consecutive Settles aces capped a tying 5-1 run (11-11), back-to-back Welch kills made it 20-20, and Cucura's kill provided a 21-21 tie, but the Purple Knights never led in the set. Williams had a kill and a block in a clinching 4-0 run.
- The second set featured 17 ties and 10 lead swings, as the Purple Knights' 14-11 and 15-12 leads were the largest for either team. Orth's ace produced the former. Williams' kill made it 22-22, but Welch posted a kill, Orth notched an ace, and first-year Mahili McKay (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) notched a kill in a 3-1 run that concluded the set.
- The teams played through 16 more ties and eight lead swings in set No. 3. Welch's kill gave the Purple Knights a 22-19 lead, the largest by either squad, but Kamke had a kill and a block in a tying 4-1 run. After Almeida's kill brought the hosts to set point at 24-23, New Haven netted the next two points. Saint Michael's twice fended off set points, but Juergens and Kamke finished the comeback with kills for the final two points.
- In the fourth set, New Haven turned an 8-6 lead into a 19-10 contest on the strength of three Juergens kills, and the hosts never again came closer than six points.
