Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight to Begin Season, Downs Post

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team picked up its second straight win to begin the season with a 76-49 triumph over Post University on Saturday during the Best Western Windjammer Tip-Off Classic in the Ross Sports Center. The Eagles received votes toward the D2CSC East Region preseason poll.

  • The Purple Knights improved to 4-1 in the all-time series.
  • Saint Michael's held a 46-29 rebounding lead and a 38-18 scoring advantage in the paint while forcing 26 turnovers and limiting the Eagles to 30.5% shooting. The Purple Knights also visited the free throw line 36 times compared to 14 trips for the visitors.
THE ACTION
  • Amber Furch scored seven points as the Purple Knights opened a 13-0 lead, holding Post off the board until Rossignol hit two free throws with 35 seconds left in the opening quarter.
  • Those freebies kicked off a 13-5 run that brought the Eagles within 18-13 on junior Nicole Parks' free throw at 6:17 of the second quarter.
  • Saint Michael's later used a 12-2 push to extend its lead to 33-17, keyed by five points apiece from Brophy and Brianna Furch.
  • Post never closed the gap to fewer than 13 points from there, as the Purple and Gold pushed its lead to as many as 30 points, on sophomore Ashlee Talbot's (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) hoop with 2:02 left in regulation (75-45).
