Women's Ice Hockey Trimmed by LIU, 1-0

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost a 1-0 decision to Long Island University during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHAC) action on Saturday at the Northwell Health Ice Center.

SAINT MICHAEL'S LEADERS OPPONENT LEADERS
  • Sophomore Grace Babington, 1 goal, 10-for-11 faceoffs
  • Sophomore Victoria Rutnik, 13 saves
GAME FACTS
  • By pushing her career save total to 1,850, Lavender passed Alysia Goldman '11 (1,823) to take over second in program history.
  • Senior Gaby Tribelli (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College) became the 18th player in program history to appear in 100 career games.
THE ACTION
  • Babington put LIU on the board with 4:21 gone in the opening period, slipping a shot from the slot just beyond Lavender's outstretched blocker.
  • The Purple Knights were later blanked on a first-period power play, with first-year Julia Chedel's (Haverhill, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) early bid at 7:55 stopped by Rutnik and Babington blocking an ensuing shot.
  • Lavender made a pair of saves in helping Saint Michael's kill two LIU power plays between the latter stages of the first and second periods, while junior Elisabeth Gerebi (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen) saw a shorthanded try at 14:24 of the second turned away.
  • Lavender came up with three stops to help salt away an LIU woman advantage that began at 14:41 of the third period before vacating her net with 49 seconds remaining in favor of an extra skater.
  • In the waning seconds, sophomore Victoria FitzGibbons' (Stittsville, Ontario/East Ottawa Junior Stars U22 AA) shot from the blue line was tipped wide, and Chedel's ensuing centering pass from the boards went untouched just before the final horn.
