Crews Reaches 1,000 Points, Men's Basketball Defeats Georgian Court, 69-60

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Senior CJ Crews (Tampa, Fla./Bayshore Christian School) became the 47th Saint Michael's College men's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points, leading the Purple Knights past Georgian Court University, 69-60, on Saturday at the GCU Wellness Center.

  • Crews became the 47th player in program history to reach 1,000 points, pushing his total to 1,019, vaulting past four players to take over 43rd in school annals. He is also 11th in three-pointers (174), narrowly trailing the 10th-place Duniver (176).
  • Saint Michael's held a 38-27 rebounding lead while shooting 20-for-23 on free throws to the Lions' 4-of-9 showing.
THE ACTION
  • Crews reached the 1,000-point threshold by burying a three-pointer at 17:22 of the first half. He canned another triple 33 seconds later.
  • Down 12-10, the Purple Knights tallied a 19-5 run that Crews sparked thanks to hitting three three-pointers in a matter of 2:17. Marold added five points, and the visitors led 29-17 at 7:42 of the first half.
  • Two buckets from Baker keyed an 8-0 response before Saint Michael's took a 33-27 lead into the locker room.
  • The Purple Knights led by no more than nine points in the second stanza until Marold canned a pair of free throws with 7:41 to go (55-44).
  • Edmonds buried a three with 2:13 left to make it 61-58, the closest margin of the second half, but Duniver knocked down a triple on the next possession.
  • After Baker's lay-in cut the deficit to 65-60 at 47 seconds, first-year Rico Byrd (East Moline, Ill./The Kiski School) hit four free throws in a 12-second span to seal the victory.
