THE ACTION
- The Spartans were unable to convert on two power plays in the first period, with Manahan making five saves with the Purple Knights down a skater, including a lunging glove save at 17:24. Manahan made 19 saves in the first period to keep the Spartans from scoring.
- The Purple Knights struck 4:23 into the second period when Douglas sent a breakout pass across ice to McFarland, who took a slapshot after letting the puck bounce off the boards and picked the top left corner. Lee added a secondary assist.
- Manahan made 12 saves in the remaining 15:37 of the second period following McFarland's tally to keep the lead for the Purple and Gold.
- Watson made six saves in the opening 2:07 of the third period to keep the Purple Knights from extending the lead.
