GAME NOTES
  • The Purple Knights downed their first ranked foe since beating No. 13 Stonehill College, 75-72, on Nov. 20, 2021, in the Ross Sports Center. Tonight's win mirrored the Purple and Gold's 61-59 victory over Stonehill - also ranked 22nd nationally - at home on Jan. 4, 2014, when Kelly Frappier's '15 put-back at the buzzer clinched the upset.
  • Saint Michael's posted a 34-26 rebounding lead, including 12-5 on the offensive glass, leading to a 19-4 advantage in second-chance points.
  • The Purple Knights won a game they led for a total of 6:17, as Assumption was in front for 32:39.
THE ACTION
  • Stokes netted five points as Assumption led 10-2 by 4:49 of the first quarter for what proved to be the largest advantage by either team.
  • Talbot buried a corner three with 11 seconds left to make it 16-12, and sophomore Amber Furch's (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood School) triple made it 19-18 at 7:59 of the second period before the Greyhounds extended their lead to seven points on five occasions by the late stages of the third stanza.
  • Down 45-38 following two Callahan freebies at 4:06, the Purple Knights responded with a 12-1 run, bolstered by five points from Tyler and a capping triple by Talbot at 7:56 of the fourth (50-46).
  • The lead changed hands six points from there, with Assumption using four points from Stokes to key a 6-0 run that gave the visitors a 61-56 lead with 1:46 to go.
  • Brianna Furch knocked down a trey 20 seconds later, and Franchi scooped home a tying lay-up with 43.5 ticks remaining.
  • On the next possession, Franchi drew an offensive foul at 24.8 seconds, giving Saint Michael's the chance for a final possession. After a short-range miss by a teammate in the waning seconds, Tyler snagged the rebound just inside the foul line and released a shot just before the buzzer, the ball bouncing off front rim and in as the horn sounded.
