Men's Basketball Loses at 14th-Ranked Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team lost to 14th-ranked Pace University, 80-68, on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play in the Goldstein Center. The Setters were 14th in this week's D2 CSC national poll and 15th in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) rankings.

THE ACTION
  • Boyd scored his team's first seven points as Pace led 10-4 by 16:22 of the opening half, but Saint Michael's trimmed its deficit to a single point three times without allowing the Setters to lead by more than two possessions prior to Kealey's lay-in at 6:26 (26-19).
  • Boyd's three-pointer pushed the lead to a half-high 36-24 with 1:52 left, but the visitors scored the final five points, including as Brzezinski hit a triple at 23 seconds to send his team into halftime down seven.
  • Henaghen's driving lay-up at 15:49 of the second half capped a 17-6 run that brought the Purple Knights within 42-41, but Boyd knocked down a pair of triples in a 9-0 response.
  • Kealey's basket at 8:11 extended the lead to 63-49 with 8:11 to go, but the Purple and Gold slowly chipped away, making it 70-64 on Henaghen's trey at 2:54 and 72-67 on De Leon's three-point play with 2:07 remaining.
  • Kealey countered with a lay-up 27 seconds later, and a Saint Michael's turnover was met with a pair of Boyd free throws with 47 ticks remaining. Alexander added a pair of freebies 10 second after that to cap the key 6-0 spurt.
